Tahsis Lions Club GREAT WALK The Great Walk in Tahsis began in 1978 when then Tahsis Mayor Bill Lore issued a challenge to then Gold River Mayor Vic Welsh: "I will walk to Gold River if you (Vic) will walk to Tahsis". The challenge was taken seriously, the walk happened and a tradition was started. The first walk raised more than $5,000 toward their community centre. The GREAT WALK is billed as North America's toughest pledge walk and for most people who do the walk there will be little disagreement. The GREAT WALK is 63.5 km in length and is held on the gravel logging road beginning in Gold River and ending in Tahsis. The road has spectacular scenery with lakes, waterfalls, rivers and beautiful rainforest.
