Walkers in the Tahsis Lion's GREAT WALK raise between $100,000 to $130,000 per year for charitable organizations. You can register for the Great Walk at the Tahsis Lion's Official Great Walk Web site at www.greatwalk.com.

The Great Walk in Tahsis began in 1978 when then Tahsis Mayor Bill Lore issued a challenge to then Gold River Mayor Vic Welsh: "I will walk to Gold River if you (Vic) will walk to Tahsis". The challenge was taken seriously, the walk happened and a tradition was started. The first walk raised more than $5,000 toward their community centre.

The GREAT WALK is billed as North America's toughest pledge walk and for most people who do the walk there will be little disagreement. The GREAT WALK is 63.5 km in length and is held on the gravel logging road beginning in Gold River and ending in Tahsis. The road has spectacular scenery with lakes, waterfalls, rivers and beautiful rainforest.

Two more walkers enter town and approach the Finish LineThe GREAT WALK has had walkers from all parts of the world participating. While many people take well over 12 hours to complete the walk, the record is 4 hours 30 minutes – an amazing feat.
