The B.C. Ambulance Service Station #133 was created in 1974. All ambulance attendants are volunteers, trained by the B.C. Ambulance Service. The ambulance service has an office and one ambulance in Tahsis.
In case of an emergency, the Ambulance crew is paged. They take the patient to the Tahsis Health Centre Emergency Department, which has one Remote Certified Practice nurse on 24 hour call, plus a doctor available 24 hours a day by phone.

Tahsis’s Roman Catholic Church is a Heritage building built in 1948 with a breathtaking view of the Inlet. The residence was added in 1954. Initially, St. Joseph’s had a full-time Priest and Sister, but in more recent years the church has a visiting priest once a month with a full mass, and a Social following. Lay members of the congregation conduct a communion service the rest of the month.
Everyone is welcome, visitor or local, to attend the services on Sunday at 11:00 a.m., and to attend the Socials following when the Priest has given the Mass. Special services are held during Christmas and Easter weeks.

The Tahsis Christian Church Society (formed July 2004) was first established as a United Church in 1957, with the Reverend Mr. Bill Howie presiding over the congregation — then known as the Tahsis Inlet Marina Mission. Rev. Howie traveled in a 36’ Cabin Cruiser mission boat, the Melvin Swarthaut, to minister to the camps and communities around the inlet.
Meetings in Tahsis were held in a residence across from the current Municipal Hall. The church was built and opened in October of 1959. During the heyday of the Mill operation in Tahsis, the congregation was as high as 80 people. Currently, the congregation numbers about twenty, ministered by Keith Orr.
This classic styled A-frame building overlooking Tahsis Inlet is the largest church in Tahsis, with a recreation hall, community kitchen and thrift store. The church is frequently used for community group meetings and community events, including a Pancake Breakfast served the Sunday following the Great Walk and on Easter Sunday. In fact, prior to the building of the Tahsis Recreation Centre in 1972, the building was a popular location for community events and meetings.
Everyone is welcome to attend the services, which are held Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m.

The Tahsis Hospital Auxiliary was founded in 1972 when the original hospital was built. The Tahsis Hospital Auxiliary continues its non-profit work of fund-raising to buy equipment and patient comfort items for the new Tahsis Health Centre, first opened in 1998. You can see the Auxiliary members in the community volunteering for the Great Walk, putting on a bake sale table at the Christmas Bazaar, and sponsoring the Tahsis Days Duck Race. Recently, they raised money and purchased a new defibrillator for the community.

The Tahsis Lions club has been active for over 30 years raising money for charity, and contributing to community events. The Great Walk is the Lions’ major fundraiser, and can raise in excess of $100,000 for a wide variety of charities. Walkers donate the money they raise to their charity of choice.
The Tahsis Lions provide their portable kitchen for community events such as the Great Walk, Halloween, the Christmas Tree Lighting and Polar Bear Swim. They also provide a yearly $1,000 bursary for CMESS for post-secondary education.

The Tahsis Museum is full of great historical photos, artifacts and information.
The Tahsis Heritage Society is primarily responsible for the Museum housed in the Tahsis Chamber of Commerce Info Centre. Society members are active in collecting archive information and artifacts, and conduct group tours of Tahsis and the museum.
The Tahsis Heritage Society and the Tahsis Economic Development Society jointly developed a local Heritage Walk brochure featuring historical sites, available at the Tahsis Recreation Centre and available on the Village of Tahsis website.

The Tahsis Rugged Mountain Rod & Gun Club has been active in Tahsis since the 1950s. In 1995, the club established a shooting range near the Leiner River Bridge. They have completed a long bore range, and are adding an archery range, 50 yard range for 22’s, and a trap shooting range. Access to the range is limited to members and guests.

Each year, the Tahsis Salmonoid Program releases from 250,000 to 500,000 fry (80% Chinook 20% Coho) into the Tahsis and Leiner Rivers. The program is staffed 100% by volunteers with the assistance of a coordinator from Department of Fisheries and Oceans. Currently, the Society is asking for Tahsis community groups to raise funds for the Salmonoid Program, to upgrade the water supply system.

The Tahsis Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1962. The fully equipped fire station has two fire trucks and a full complement of trained volunteer firefighters. The Fire Department also assists with community events such as the Halloween Fireworks, Christmastime Tree Lighting, Parades and Bazaars. Volunteers are always wanted. If this interests you, please stop by the Fire Hall or the Village Office to obtain an application package. Training nights are Wednesdays at 6 p.m.
